Discover Columbus Sign

Here we are discovering Columbus with an entire Justice League crew. Check out the videos for more of what went down! Thanks to the therapy staff at Columbus Health and Rehabilitation as well as other Justice League fans for helping us out with this challenge!

Mill Race Tower Adventure

We climbed the 131 stairs to the top of the Mill Race Tower. So, challenge complete? It's not that easy for superheroes. We looked over the edge of that railing and thought...."should we try out our flying skills, right? Now is really our chance to show some moves. Do we want to win this thing or what? It's do or die!"

"Let's do it! 1.....2.....JUMP!"

It was all going so nicely. We were just soaring along, doing some flips, you know, like superheroes do. Then, all of the sudden, we got caught up in a swift wind.

Talk about a major wardrobe malfunction!

Okay, lesson learned. We need a little more practice at the flying gig. The Justice League, however, will be back for more because, if I may quote a successful Amazing Race Team from 2007, we are indeed "In it to win it."

Historic Homes Tour

We volunteered at this event at the house on 1910 Washington St. Here we ran into some amazing racers, including some Red Bulls.

Inside the house, Jon Gukenberger told us the story of the house and answered all of our studious questions. Thanks, Jon!

Here we recognized that this must be the smallest bathroom we have ever seen. Given that we have also been to the largest toilet ever through this amazing race experience, we thought it was fitting to also note the smallest, which was in this historic house.

Ethnic Expo

The Ethnic Expo was full of great food, good camradere, and lots of fun photo opts!

Here we are with the Columbus Chinese Association. The "King" in this picture designed the float that is behind us.

They allowed the Justice League to sport their Kimono dresses!

City Council Meeting

Here we are with Mayor Fred Armstrong, and Treasurer, Brenda Sullivan. During this meeting, the issue of Columbus' need for a new water plant was mentioned. To that, Mayor Armstrong stated that for now, "When you flush it, it works." But, when the time comes to purchase new one, he stated that it would become "A 60 million dollar flush." (These quotes were published with Mayor Armstrong's consent!)

Some Putt Putt Domination

Here we are at the Leg 3 wrap up...the putt putt tournament. Our banner reflects a hole for each of our sponsors. It was our attempt to do a little something to thank you all.

Here's the Amazing Race putt-putt crew, including representatives from the Local Drafts, TriTans, B.A.S.H., and the Damsels, We won leg 3 and the putt putt tournament. Oh, what a night. We bought some lottery tickets on the way home!

Mill Race Race and Mayors 5K Walk

Taking some time for a pre-race photo opt before the start of the 15K race.

We did some post race celebration with other race participants. Clint and Greg from Vistors Welcome and Casey from the Green Team got in on the fun.

Linebacker Jeff Herrod ran the 5K. Those that beat him won prizes. Rayann smoked him and Jen ran a heck of a lot further than him, so we opted for a photo.

We ran into the Tri-Tans and the Roadhouse armadillo on the way out...

Freedom Field

While we were at Freedom Field, a handicap accessible playground, we happen to notice Spiderman on the climbing rock....strange we know! It looked as though he had a Red Bull can wrapped in his web. We could only infer the meaning behind this...

The kiddos from Parkside Elementary were pumped about the Spiderman cameo...

Rayann gave the full report on the events that ensued...

Driftwood Valley Music Festival

Day 1: The Iron Pour

We came for day one of this festival to see what this "Iron Pour" was all about. Here, we ran into a familiar face. Check out our video to see more of what went on...

Day 2: The Music Festival
Here we are Rockin' it out with Iuri Hart Santos from North Star Capoeira. He taught us to play some of his instruments. He mentioned that he is available for performances, demonstrations, workshops, and lectures...reach him at iurigagari@hotmail.com. Thanks for your time Iuri!

We found another familiar face from Visitors Welcome at the music festival...

Hope Heritage Days

We checked out Hope Heritage Days and one booth really caught our eye. Julius and Cammille Shoaf make pure honey. They had the bees to prove it! Their business is Shoaf Apiaries...get yours by e-mailing them at beecrazy@sbcglobal.net

We found some Hopesters taking a break from all the festivities to pose for a picture with us. Dorothy and Ruth have are long time residents of Hope and were anxious to share their favorite aspects of this historic community.

We were anxious to see that even the Justice League was represented at this festival, even it if is at a small temporary tattoo booth!

Exploding Engine

We checked out the "exploding engine" at the Cummins plant. Here we ran into Matt, a Cummins employee, who gave us a brief rundown of what we were looking at. Outside, of course was the engine all put together. It was heavy.

Now, as we were completing this challenge, we couldn't help but notice the metaphorical similarities between our professions as therapists and what we saw with the engine. First, you have all the pieces; everything is there, but not quite working the way it is suppose to. To have the Cummins quality, high performance machine, some adjustments must be made. We are no mechanics, but by assessing this particular engine, it looks like it could use some screws tightened, parts rotated, and a few wrenches turned in order to make this a functional engine. As a speech therapist and physical therapist, we work together in a multidisciplinary facet to help patients get there their life back. We try to give them their working engine back so that they can rev through life.

River Rat Grove

After searching far and wide, we finally "traveled" to this place to "unravel." We couldn't help but to maintain this "rat" theme.

Along our search, we ran into David (current Cummins employee) and Tom (Cummins Retiree) who frequent this peaceful place on at least a weekly basis this time of year. They were happy to pose in a rat themed photo with us. They enquired on forming a team in the amazing race...we explained that Columbus YOUNG Professionals was always open to suggestions (do we have a suggestion box or something like Taco Bell?) and they could take this up with the bosses :)

Random Act of Kindness

Many of those who were devastated by the flood continue to have a difficult time with the simple, day to day things. We thought we could help out by gathering and delivering some food with the help of volunteers from the Eastside Community Center.

Jeff
, Ashley, and Connie, who all work at Cummins were also ready and willing to lend a helping hand in packing up boxes of food to be delivered.

At the corner...

Workers at this local eatery, Ashley and Megan, took a minute to pose in a picture with us. All we can say is, the food was AWESOME. What we ate? Well, if we told you that, we would be saying WAY too much!

...of Beale St and Elvis Presley Blvd. We found him...the man, the myth, the legend! As you can tell by our reaction, he's just as dreamy as we remember.

Mmmmm....Hot Meal!

Taking some time to serve some hot meals to some hungry folks. It was our pleasure to work with Judy and the gang from First United Methodist Church. We served chili, breadsticks, green beens and lots of cake and pies to the people who stopped in.

Scottish Festival

We attempted some Scottish dances at the festival. OK, so maybe it's not EXACTLY a Scottish Highland Dance, but we definitely gave it a Justice League shot...

Our moves....

Their moves...

We also ran into a young piper, Johnathan. He schooled us on the technicalities of his kilt. It consists of over 10 yards of fabric in order to complete all of those pleats. This fabric, by the way, will set you back over $70 per yard. Do the math...that's one expensive get-up! Team Justice League used our crafty side to create our Scottish ensemble.

Professional Development Seminar

Everything you wanted to know about investing, but were afraid to ask...

We gathered some useful financial info from The Hartford with other amazing racers. The Sizzle, Local Drafts, and, of course, the TriTans didn't miss out on this opportunity to obtain some useful knowledge.

Here is a poetic tip that we gathered from this presentation:

I know we are the Justice League and most of the time funny
But listen up this time to here our tip about money

A professional investor took some time to teach us all we need to know Considering your objectives first is really the way to go

Time frame is next, think about how fast you want the cash

For retirement, a new car, or maybe just a hell of a bash?

Don't forget about your reward potential, there is so much to gain,

But you could also lose your *&$, so consider your risk only to remain sane

Just a tip from the top, don't try it on your own

There is much to mull, so throw your investor a bone

They will take care of you, as it is what they do

You'll lean more about stocks, bonds, and mutual funds, too

We enjoyed the presentation, thanks so much for your time

I bet you never thought you could learn so much from a Justice League rhyme.

The Big Flush

We found it! Here is the largest toilet. For those of you who have also discovered this incredible scatological artifact, you will understand why we were excited to have found some kiddo superheros along our way. Thanks to Superboy and Ms. Flash.

Oops...almost fell in! Thanks for the backup, Wonder Woman!
